Hiring sounds easy enough: find a qualified candidate, offer a position, and complete some paperwork. Unfortunately, of course, the hiring process is anything but easy. And, if not done properly, it can be fraught with liability. Disciplinary actions are simple, right? Terminations are clear cut when you’re dealing with an at-will employee? Wishful thinking!
Key topics in this workshop will include:
- Determining your hiring needs
- What to include in job announcements
- Applicant tracking rules (EEO-1 and state requirements)
- How to handle unsolicited resumes
- Appropriate language for employment applications
- What you can and can’t ask during interviews
- The legal limits of drug and other pre-employment testing (e.g., skills, personality, integrity, etc.)
- What to include in an offer letter
- Pitfalls in the on-boarding process (e.g., I-9 compliance, E-Verify, etc.)
- What “progressive discipline” really means
- When termination makes sense and the documentation you need
Who Should Attend?
- CEOs and Business Executives
- Human Resource Professionals
- Business Owners
- Business Managers and Supervisors
